Primary Young Musician of the Year Final 2017

Over the past few weeks primary students aged from 7-11 have been competing for the coveted title of ‘Young Musician of the Year’. Over 200 musicians from BIS HCMC and BVIS went through the first round with only 12 making it to the final held on Tuesday 17th October at BIS Secondary Campus. This year saw the highest number of Year 4 students making it through along with musicians from Year 5 and Year 6 showing their musical gifts on a range of instruments performing from piano, cello, violin, voice and classical guitar.
Each young performer showed their ability to practice and perfect a piece to competition standard and wowed the audience with their professionalism and musicianship. Our judges, Mr Ian Alexander (APS), Mrs Emma Husband (APS), Ms Georgina Hardiman (BVIS), and Mr Gareth Groves (ABC) had a challenging decision to make and deliberated for a long time before announcing the winners.
In first place was Caitlin Chua (APP) playing Humoresque by Dvorak on the cello, in second place was Dolly Nguyen (TX) performing Waltz in A Minor by Chopin on the piano, and third place went to Thanh Tin Pham (BVIS) on the guitar sharing with the audience Natalia by Moustaki.
Congratulations to all of those who have taken part in the first round, the semi-finals and those special few who made it through to the finals. To put yourself forward for such a challenging competition is fantastic and shows just how motivated our young musicians are. I look forward to more musical events in the future and to see what our young musicians are capable of doing next.
